A SILK EMBROIDERED HANDSCROLL DEPICTING SWALLOWS
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The scroll is finely embroidered with four swallows flying amidst flowering prunus and chrysanthemum branches, with a poetic inscription to one side with three seals. There are a further three collector's seals to the bottom corners of the scroll.

Compare the current lot to a Ming dynasty (1368-1644) embroidered hanging scroll, part of a set of four, also depicting swallows amidst prunus, illustrated in Heavens' Embroidered Cloths: One Thousand Years of Chinese Textiles, Hong Kong, 1995, pp. 348-349, no. 124.
