Lot Essay

With Rolex original Garantie, sales tags, Rolex Oyster guaranteed 300 meters/1000 ft. under water anchor and cord, product literature, fitted presentation box and outer packaging.

The present watch stands out by its excellent overall condition and the presence of the original accessories.

It is from the reference 16800 series, in production from 1982 until 1986, with the COMEX designation on the outside of the screw back and on the dial. Part or the entire serial number was repeated to the inside of the case back, a feature only seen on this model and reference 5513 which was supplied to COMEX and to military forces (see lot 100 in this auction).

The inside case back of the present watch bears reference 16800 and R381411, the entire serial number.

Launched in 1982, reference 16800 introduced the quick-set date and an increased depth rating of 1000 ft (300 m). Early models featured luminous indexes as in reference 1680, later generations were fitted with the white gold borders around the luminous numerals, such as the present watch.
