TWO JAPANESE LACQUER SUZURIBAKO [WRITING-BOXES] AND ANOTHER BOX
EDO-MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
Each decorated in gold and various coloured lacquer using various techniques; the first suzuribako with a crane and turtle beside pine, plum and bamboo, the interior fitted with an inner tray; the second decorated in lacquer and inlays of cut shell, the exterior with stylised foliage and mon-like designs, the interior with cranes in flight over maple leaves on a stream, fitted with a water dropper and ink slate; the third box with sprays of lotus and Buddha's finger citron beside an altar table
