NORTHEAST INDIA, PALA PERIOD, CIRCA 10TH CENTURY
The Buddha carved seated on a lotus base placed on a throne, his right hand in bhumisparshamudra, flanked by a pair of bodhisattvas, mounted; the four-armed Vishnu standing in samabangha on a lotus base, his arms resting on the head of female and male dwarf figures, wearing a dhoti, bejewelled, a section of a halo behind, on stand
The Buddha 8 ¾ in. (22 cm.); Vishnu 21 ¼ in. (54 cm.) high
Provenance
The Buddha acquired in London, 3 September 1973.
Vishnu sold Christie's, London, 7 June 1978, lot 157.
