A LARGE DE VEZ DOUBLE OVERLAY CAMEO GLASS 'PAYSAGE' VASE WITH PATINATED BRONZE FOOT
PROPERTY FROM A DISTINGUISHED EUROPEAN COLLECTION (LOTS 46 to 111)“My passion for collecting glass and other works was inherited from my late father. I accompanied him to many different sales and auctions, mainly in Christie’s London, and slowly I found myself drawn more and more to Art Nouveau and Art Deco. I was especially attracted by Galle and Daum glass, Tiffany lamps, and bronze and ivory figures and, with my father’s encouragement, I started forming my own collection. I also liked the impressionist and modern pictures and I remember travelling to Paris with my father to build the collection of major Ecole de Paris artists such as Aristide Maillol, Maurice Utrillo, Marie Laurencin and Leonard Foujita, amongst others…Like many collectors I have a reluctance to sell, but I do like the idea that these works from my collection will continue their journey in someone else’s, perhaps even inspiring someone to begin right now as I did in the early 1980s. I am moving to a smaller home and cannot accommodate everything and have therefore made this selection for you now; I hope they will bring as much joy to you as they have to me.”
