Lot Essay

In his early years Eduard Frankfort painted a lot of scenes from Jewish religious life. In 1905-1906 Frankfort travelled through South Africa, where he visited his sister. During his travels he was inspired by the landscape and its inhabitants, as can be seen in the present lot.
