A childhood without worries, sadness, and resentments is still the imaginary pursuit of ours. It is a state of forgotten purity and security. -Guo Jin

Guo Jing was born in the 1964 in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan. He graduated from the Sichuan Fine Art Institute in 1990. In the work Merry Children No. 5 (Lot 158), three children are levitating in mid-air as if they exist in a dimension between reality and fantasy. The images of children are cracked and mottled. Their coarse skin covers the entire picture, and their cloudy facial features are seemingly frozen. The artist is suggesting that behind every merriment and revel hides restlessness. It symbolises the myriads of mental and visual conditions experienced by city-dwellers. It is grave subject that the artist critically evaluates.
