A RARE WHITE JADE THREE-TIERED SQUARE BOX AND COVER
MID-QING DYNASTY
The bottom tier is raised on four short, L-shaped feet and carved on each side in low relief with upright lotus petals, the sides of the second tier with ruyi-heads, and the sides of the cover are similarly decorated with downward lotus petals. The top of the cover is carved with a bird in flight, a flowering branch beside a rocky outcrop, all above a lotus pond. The stone is of a translucent white tone with some russet inclusions.

Provenance
Mats Olof Gustafsson (1879-1928), thence by descent in the family. According to family tradition this lot came to Sweden from Russia in the 1920s after the Russian revolution.
