Introduced in 1970 and remaining production until 1987, the reference 6263 and 6265 represented Rolexes continued development of a waterproof Daytona following on from the earlier reference 6240. As a combination of the calibre 727 higher frequency movement, the larger crown and screw down pushers and the black acrylic bezel, for many collectors the reference 6263 represent the ultimate configuration of the Daytona.
Produced in steel, 14K and 18K gold, it was only the precious metal cased version that proudly stated the fact that the movement has been tested Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres for 15 days in 5 different positions at a variety of temperatures. This is announced on the dial with the now iconic phrase, “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified”, providing a beautiful sense of aesthetic balance and overall harmony to the dial.
This particular example is notable for its dial which is in fantastic condition, the clear hallmarks to the back of the lugs, matching case back and original 18K gold bracelet.
