the leaf painted with Neapolitan dancers and vignettes of pixies in comic poses and a druid and a fairy within garlands of holly and mistletoe toasting the New Year in above the dates 1858 and 1859, the verso painted with the name Elie incorporating five suitors: a nobleman, an Irishman, a millionaire, a gentleman and an officer, the bone sticks pierced and gilt - 11in. (27cm.), 1858 (guardstick and one stick repaired)
