A BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI
LAOS, 17TH CENTURY

拍品專文

This Laotian Buddha is a fine example cast in the tradition of the Thai Ayutthaya artistic school of the seventeenth century. The Buddha’s facial expression becomes more impersonal from Buddha figures of previous Thai periods. Earlier and specific Laotian examples are not known. His face displays a high forehead with strong arched eyebrows, one of the hallmarks of Laotian Buddhas. Its casting is of the highest technical quality.
