Expressive nose with mocha, chocolate and tobacco aromas. Very silky texture with perfect balance evidence of perfect cellaring. Tasted on 10 February 2009. B.P.F. Fresh sweet nose of beetroot, tobacco, leather and faint rose petal aroma, quite elegant. Soft ripe sweet fruit on start, dried apricots, leathery, typical ‘59 intensity, round tannins on the finish. On second taste the sheer balance of this wine is remarkable, very lively. Velvety mouthfeel with soft round tannins on the finish. Long life ahead. Philippe Prost compares the ‘59 with 2015. 18/20. Last tasted at Château de Beaune in November 2015. E.V.
