The decoration on this bowl, and others like it, celebrates and represents autumn. The primary flower that decorates the bowl is the chrysanthemum. On the exterior and interior they are shown with other autumnal flowers such as asters, daisies, begonia and amaranth. Bowls of this design appear to have been first made during the Qianlong period (1735-1796), and a pair of bowls with this mark was sold at Christie's London, 9 November 2004, lot 31, as was a pair with Daoguang marks, lot 30. A bowl with Jiaqing mark (1796-1820) in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 39 - Porcelains with Cloisonne Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Decoration, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 207, pl. 183.
