Lot Essay

Regina Middleton was a pupil of Sickert at Rowlandson House, the private school Sickert opened in 1910 at 140 Hampstead Road. He considered Middleton his most talented pupil. Several of her pictures including two paintings of flowers, were included in Paintings, Drawings and Etchings by Past and Present Pupils of Mr Sickert, an exhibition held at the Carfax Gallery, London in July 1913 (see W. Baron, Sickert Paintings and Drawings, New Haven and London, 2006, p. 414).

We are very grateful to Dr Wendy Baron for her assistance in cataloguing lots 218, 219 and 224.
