Lot Essay

The knot count is approximately 9V x 9H per cm. sq.

This fantastical cartoon of grotesque and mythical figures appeared in a slightly extended version on a silk Heriz rug sold in these Rooms, 19 April 2016, lot 43. There the weaver chose to depict the scene on a blue background with the addition of a further pair of opposing semi-human figures in the upper part of the field. Although the border of the present lot is somewhat narrower and more simplified in drawing than that example, the overall condition is markedly better in the present lot.
