Pleurosaurus lived in the warm waters of an archipelago, or lagoon, on the edge an ancient ocean called the Thethys sea during the age of the Dinosaurs. Belonging to the order of lizard-like Rhynchocephalia (beaked-headed), their only surviving relatives are the tuataras of New Zealand. The present specimen is very finely preserved.
