Lot Essay

Jurgen Bey (b. 1965) believes the inventor is now redundant. Turning his attention to converting various natural forms into more useful objects. Proudly boasting his ‘pieces of furniture are an investigation’, a selection of similar works made from wood, wool and felt were exhibited in ‘Fitness Flat’ 2008 in Brussels. Bey also serves as director of The Sandberg Institute (part of The Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam) for postgraduate studies in contemporary thought and design. Works by Bey and his collaborator Rianne Makkink are in the collection of the Centraal Museum (Utrecht).
