Château Mouton-Rothschild 1949
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Corroded embossed château capsules, one slightly damaged. One good appearance, four bin-soiled damaged labels and one badly bin-soiled. Levels: two top-shoulder, three upper-shoulder and one mid-shoulder
Tasting note: Unquestionably the finest ’49. ……….20 occasions and have from the start found it enchanting, rich and ripe yet with an indefinable delicacy, and a complete contrast to the unquestionably magnificent, lordly, ’45. Perhaps its secret lies in the modest alcoholic content: 10.5%. Most recently, a medium-deep autumnal colour; vivacious, fragrant, floral bouquet; rich yet with a lacy delicacy, and exquisite flavour. Last tasted November 2003 ****** (six stars) M.B.
