Château d'Yquem 1929
Sauternes, 1er grand cru classé
Embossed Château capsule, branded cork. Bin-soiled label, remains of original tissue. Level: top-shoulder. Medium amber colour
Tasting note: Harvest 20 September – 9 October. Sheer perfection on all but one of several memorable occasions. To summarise: slight colour variation though mostly a deep, rich, amber, some a rose-tinted tawny; peaches and cream ride uppermost, also apricots (sorry to drag this out again, but it is so apposite), peeled sultanas, sometimes slightly chocolatey, always richly penetrating. Also always sweet, never seeming to dry out, its flavour being a concentration of all the fragrances just mentioned, with great length and exquisite aftertaste. At best ***** M.B
