A MOTTLED SPINACH GREEN 'FISH AND LOTUS POND' WATER POT

The water pot is carved in high relief to the exterior with nine fish swimming in a lotus pond strewn with lotus leaves and flower buds, the detail of the water, fish scales and lotus leaf veins all finely incised. The stone is of a mottled spinach green tone with grey and russet inclusions.

Lot Essay

World Refugee Year took place in 1959-1960 and was an attempt by the United Nations, governments and non-governmental organisations to increase public awareness of refugees.
