Details
Petrus 1945
Pomerol, cru exceptionnel
In June 2016 returned to Petrus to check authenticity.
Two capsules cut to verify imprint on cork by Petrus cellar master. Clear postwar glass. Slightly raised corks. Original capsules, one corroded. Bin-soiled slightly damaged labels, three with old Maison J. G. Garros sliplabels.
Levels: two top-shoulder, two just below top-shoulder, one upper-shoulder and three low-shoulder
Tasting note: A dozen notes over the past 30 years. Unquestionably impressive; for a big wine, elegant. Most recently, three magnums at a Grands Vins Fins dinner in Oslo: amazing colour, opaque, velvety, ruby rim; rich, spicy, fruit-packed; sweet, concentrated, very tannic. Last tasted Aug 2005 ***** MB.
