Great classic Portuguese grand cru. Rarely seen.
From two top quality quinta’s: Quinta do Vale Meao and Quinta do Leda in the Douro Superior. First made in 1952 when dry red Douro wines were not as common a today. Only released in the best vintages and in limited quantities. The 1985 is the eleventh Barca Velha which was released.
When the than coach of Chelsea football team, Jose Mourinho, wanted to send a present to Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United he chose Barca Velha 1964. Sir Alex is a wine lover and collector himself. In 2015 Christie’s auctioned a part of his collection.
