The metal label with distinctive dragon or seahorse symbol and `C' number was identified by Susan Stuart on a mahogany chest of circa 1880 - 97 which also bore an additional Gillow & Co metal nameplate. Stuart speculates that the label was used by either Gillows' London or Liverpool businesses (S. Stuart, `Marks Labels and Stamps Used on Gillow and Waring & Gillow Furniture 1770 - 1960', Regional Furniture, Leeds, 1998, pp. 80 - 81, fig. 42).
