Lot Essay

Lady Porchester was the daughter of Charles Wyndham, 2nd Earl of Egremont. She married Henry Herbert, 1st Earl of Carnarvon (1741-1811), known as The Lord Porchester from 1780 to 1793. He was a Whig politician and inherited Highclere Castle from his uncle the Hon. Robert Sawyer Herbert in 1769.
