After World War Two Fleur Cowles travelled extensively, in many instances under the auspices of Look magazine as the associate editor, but also as an unofficial diplomat, charged with instructions from the incumbent American President at the time. This is how she came to meet the Peróns in 1949 and, by 1951 they were the subject of her first book, ‘Bloody Precedent’; the first to take note of their atrocities and raise awareness outside Argentina. Fleur also frequently travelled to Egypt, where she met on many occasions with the President Gamel Abdel Nasser, a great transformer and modernizer of Egypt during his tenure 1956 to 1970. Nasser always formerly presented Fleur with a gift after each visit.
