Small 4° (198 x 138mm). Title printed in red and black, Trot’s device on title, woodcut illustrations and diagrams, woodcut initials. (Very lightly and evenly browned throughout, a few spots in the margins.) 19th-century marbled wrappers (paper partly torn away on spine, rubbed). Provenance: Michael Chasles (bookplate) – Etienne Récamier (bookplate).
Alchabitius was a famous Arabic astrologer of the tenth century, whose principal work was al-Madkhal ila ?ina'at ahkam al-nujum ('Introduction to the art of astrology'), 'an introductory exposition of some of the fundamental principles of genethlialogy … it was highly valued as a textbook’ (DSB). The present work contains Joannes de Saxonia's commentary on al-Qasbisi's work, as well as the notes of Petrus Turrellus. BM STC French, p.1.
