Lot Essay

For similar paterae see acc. nos 03.24.9 and 03.24.4 in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The retrograde incised inscription reading 'Suthina' translates as 'for the tomb' and signified the item was not meant to be used again by the living.
