For a similar pairing of a Qing imperial book with wood covers inside an earlier period carved red lacquer box, see Lacquer Wares of the Yuan and Ming Dynasties in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, The Commercial Press, Hong Kong, 2006, p. 17. It is a recurrent Qing court practice to reuse lacquer boxes for imperial books. The sample cited above in the Beijing Palace Museum also shows a padding in light blue silk which suggests that the current match can be a contemporaneous pairing.
