Lot Essay

The presently offered watch features its original Patek Philippe bracelet. Noted on the archive, this original heavy 18k bracelet features the PP crown on its clasp. The movement number 760'464 indicates this is one of the earliest 2526s to have been made and the archive confirms this example was made during the first year of production of this celebrated reference. In fact, this exact dial and bracelet configuration is what was marketed in advertisements and in-store displays in 1953-1954 featuring the ‘Chevrons’ style as it was originally called.

A landmark model for Patek Philippe, reference 2526 is the first automatic wristwatch made by the company, introduced in 1953. Its 12-600 caliber is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful movements ever made. Its large 18k rotor is capable of quickly accumulating large reserves of energy and thus achieving a reliability well comparable with modern timepieces. From an aesthetic standpoint, the clean lines of the Calatrava-style case and minimalist enamel dial make this timepiece an everlasting classic.
