Lot Essay

Made in 1858, this early enamel is a fine example of a heavily decorated watch made for the American market. With the cuvette signed Tiffany & Co., N.Y. and Patek Philippe, this watch represents one of the earliest watches co-signed by both of these important companies. Historically, it is fascinating to note that Antoine de Norbert de Patek (1812-1877) and Charles Lewis Tiffany (1812-1902) met just 6 years earlier in person in New York City. Perhaps this watch was part of that initial order.
