Hidden Hinges
Hidden hinges on a watch are the ultimate expression of the highest level of the craftsmanship in the art of casemaking. It is form of subtlety that silently ‘screams’ mastery and is rarely seen on any watch, and only seen in the highest quality watches ever made. Henry Graves, Jr., the ultimate collector, personally requested the great majority of his pocket watches to be made with hidden hinges and at least 9 of his watches were made with this casemaker ‘complication’.
For another example of a hidden hinge, please see Lot 146 in this sale.
