Lot Essay

This well preserved example of the iconic reference 1463 exhibits all the fine qualities one could hope for in this model. Beautifully raised hard enamel outer scales and Patek Philippe signature frame the raised gold numerals of the dial while the light plays across the satin surface to great effect.

This “second series” reference 1463 was sold in 1949 in the midst of the second series production which ran from 1945 and finished 1961.

The case of this water-resistant 1463 was made by Taubert (formerly Freres Borgel) and was considered a sports watch in its day for its water and dust resistant case combined with a chronograph. A soft-iron dust cap also protects the movement.

This fine watch can be considered a great rarity both for its condition, originality, and beauty in design, a true vintage wearable work of art.
