We are extremely fortunate to receive an exceptional consignment from an illustrious family of wine collectors based in London. Begun by the father, the collection is now managed by the son, who has inherited his father’s passion for wine and deep knowledge of the topic. The family’s collection is significant and commendably diverse, with holdings across the world of fine wine from the best claret to top Burgundy and beyond. In the case of this specific auction we are delighted to offer a collection of the family’s Californian Cult wines. This is a magnificent offering of some of the rarest wines ever to come from California and includes rare size formats of Schrader, Harlan Estate and Screaming eagle, along with Sine Qua Non and a focused collection of the legendary Pappy van Winkle.
The Screaming Eagle selection at the center of this collection is without doubt one the finest we have ever offered at auction. The vintages in this sale include some of the greatest Screaming Eagle ever bottled and come in bottle and extremely rare magnum format.

SCREAMING EAGLE
The vineyard, located on the east side of Oakville, slopes from the Silverado Trail toward the Napa Valley with 59 acres of vines. The soil is virtually a rock pile on a gentle, west-facing slope east of the Napa River. The property is conveniently nestled in an area in the valley where the grapes receive enough heat during the day for optimum ripening, followed by light, gentle afternoon breezes that blow north from San Pablo Bay. Limited in quantity, only a small portion of the grapes are used to make Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon; the rest of the grapes are sold to other wineries. The signature of the wine is captured in the rich, loamy earthiness that gives the Cabernet a plush structural foundation and folds in with its layers of currant, plum, cherry and herbal flavors. It is not only consistent in its complex and concentrated flavor but also in its blend: 85 percent to 88 percent Cabernet, 10 percent to 12 percent Merlot and 1 percent to 2 percent Cabernet Franc. This wine of humble beginnings, which was first created by the owner, Jean Phillips, at home is now one of the most celebrated wines in Napa Valley. Starting in 2006, Screaming Eagle began producing a second wine called Second Flight.
