First Aldine edition. This combination of texts on Roman agriculture by Cato, Varro, Columella and Palladio was first printed by Jenson at Venice in 1472. A fine, large and crisp copy.
4to (214 x 130 mm). 344 leaves (including blank cc10). Italic type 1:80. Woodcut dolphin and anchor device (Fletcher 5) on title, aa1 and verso of last leaf, several leaves with woodcut diagrams, initial spaces with guide letters. (A few tears on gutter margin of last leaf from glue in rebacking, stain to text on leaves F7-F8, portion of blank front flyleaf cut away.) Contemporary blind-panelled Italian calf over pasteboard (corners repaired, rebacked in morocco with modern spine label); quarter morocco slipcase. Provenance: Some early notations on front free endpaper, underlinings and marginalia; Jesuit College at Bruges (early inscription on title-page).
