From an album probably compiled in Vienna in the early 19th Century. Antoine-Augustin Renouard, Paris, 20 November 1854, part of lot 628 (to Pottier, antiquarian bookseller). Anonymous sale; Blache, Versailles, 13 March 1966, lot 165. with Knoedler Gallery, New York, where acquired by the Ford Foundation in November 1966.

Lot Essay
In the inscription, Vernet mistakenly identifies the temple as that dedicated to Diana, also at Baia. A closely related view of the same temple is at the Albertina (inv. 22807).
