Cunha, Malvasia Velha 1870
Recorked and rewaxed by Francisco Albuquerque, new wax capsules. Newly stencilled. Levels into neck.
Tasting note: First tasted February 2016. High toned nose, spirity, straw, and slightly raisiny. Very mature appearing. Briar tone. Quite punchy on the nose. With some air the spirity acetone tone vanished slowly giving way to concentrated subdued sweet dried peaches aromas, vintage furniture wax, vanilla and honey cake. Long cask aged style. Sweet start with high acidity, raisins, waxy, and intense. On the side a warm spirity tone finalizing with some natural bitters and orange zest. Intense concentrated wine with a bite. Powerful. On the after taste sweeter and more balanced, in concentrated orange fruit style. About half a year later. Rich intense nose of sweet sun ripened fruits, honey, floral tones, hint of peaches, slightly ethereal, quite intriguing. Soft taste start, raisiny, dried peaches and uplifted. On the finish touch of bitterness and alcohol. Long cask aged style. Fresh finish of creamy flavors and dried peaches. Very good. Last tasted June 2016. EV.
