Araújo de Barros, Verdelho 1895
José Gomes Henriques de Araujo, Referta Prazares Madeira. Aged in oak casks for 54 anos. Bottled 1949, rebottled 1973, rebottled 1998. Wax capsules. Hand-painted name and vintage on bottle with slightly bin soiled labels. Levels into neck
Tasting note: Sweet intense nose of tobacco, cacao, furniture wax, high toned, fresh and pure. Soft apply taste, concentrated, medium sweet attack of taste, fresh aromas, touch of spirit on pallet, old wood, acacia and honey cake (that lovely Madeiran treat). Rounded aftertaste of apples, and waxy acidity. Great acidity. 18. Very good wine. Nice sweetness in the aftertaste with acidity lingering gently on the background. April 2014 in the Madeira Wine Company tasting room.
Later that year in NY at the pre-sale tasting this bottle was even more open and attractively presenting itself. A great Verdelho. Last tasted December 2014. EV.
