TIMOTHY LEARY
A group of three books owned by Dr. Leary while living in exile in Switerzland, 1971-1972. In addition to his annotations, each book bears a date and market value in his hand, the idea being to sell them to raise money to pay his expenses in exile. Includes "THE JOURNEY TO THE EAST" by Herman Hesse, Noonday Press, 1970 reprint, annotated by Timothy Leary as his greatest guidebook etc.; "THE GLASS BEAD GAME", also by Herman Hesse, 1969, first U.S. edition, with cloth binding, annotated by Dr. Leary on front e.p. with references to Swiss Mardi Gras (Fassnacht), which he attended while in exile, also referencing his old guru Herman Hesse. The Millbrook commune was named "Castalia Foundation" after this book; and "HESSE & JUNG: A RECORD OF TWO FRIENDSHIPS" by Serrano Miguel, Schocken Books 1966. Annotated by Dr. Leary on front e.p. Sent into the Lausanne Prison July 71 (where he was held for a month during extradition hearings) along with a watercolor of H.H. (pictured in "What Does Woman Want?") by Christoph Wenger (Hesse's grandson) which omen liberated Timothy Leary.
