An Australian 19th Century novelty inkstand with a pair of similar mantel ornaments,
each on an ebonised plinth and with a glass dome, the former with a central emu egg carved in cameo with a kangaroo, an emu, a kookaburra and a cockatoo surrounding a heart-shaped cartouche with a sailing boat within a harbour, the egg supported on a tree fern with rockwork base and with a green, blue and clear glass vase above, the plush base applied with two square glass inkwells, a pen rest, a cast emu and a cast kangaroo - overall height 18¼in. (46.25cm.), the two mantel ornaments featuring emu eggs carved in cameo with emus, a lyre bird and a cockatoo (one damaged), the eggs supported on tree ferns and with ball finials - 10¼in. (26cm.) overall. (3)
