Small 8° (163 x 98mm). Title printed in red and black with engraved vignette, engraved frontispiece portrait of Arlensis, one woodcut diagram. (Tear across six lines of text on B2 with loss of a few letters, some browning and spotting throughout, some leaves with faint waterstain, mainly marginal.) Contemporary vellum, lettering-piece (lightly rubbed, a few stains).

Scarce Hamburg edition of this compilation, the first to include Albinus’ Magia astrologia, along with the works by Leonardi and Arlensis. The main work, Leonardi’s Speculum lapidum was first published in Venice in 1502. ‘In this famous lapidary, Leonardi classifies over 250 types of hard gems and stones according to their color, hardness, porosity, weight and transparency. A third of the book is devoted to an alphabetical listing and description of particular stones, while another third is occupied with astrological and magical images carved on gems and their occult significance ’ (Curtis’ Schuh’s Bibliography of Mineralogy online).
