MUNSTER, Sebastian (1488-1552). Horologiographia, post priorem aeditionem. Basel: Henricus Petri, 1533.
4° (203 x 155mm). Title woodcut, 60 full-page and 7 half-page woodcut diagrams with occasional touches of hand-colouring, 12 full-page cuts of the zodiacal signs partly by Hans Holbein the Younger, printer’s device at end. Two 15th-century manuscript leaves bound in as rear endpapers. (Title soiled, tattered and severely stained at outer margin, first few quires soiled at margins, more occasional soiling to later leaves, final quire tt browned and frayed at bottom edges, also somewhat soiled.) Contemporary wallet-style vellum, spine with three raised bands, manuscript title lettering in upper compartment, original brass clasps, uncut (several tears, piece torn from front cover, pages slightly compressed, front endpapers replaced). Provenance: Alhardus vander Horst (contemporary inscription on title).
Second, augmented edition of Münster's impressively illustrated work on sundials, here in a rare contemporary wallet binding. Adams M-1918; Brunet III, 1944; Burmeister, Sebastian Munster 50; Honeyman 2272; Wellcome I, 4476; Zinner 1538
