3 parts, 2° (383 x 245mm). Half-title, title printed in red and black, engraved portrait and 400 engraved illustrations, wood-engraved headpieces, one engraved headpiece and initial. (Long but clean tear across M1 in pt. II, lightly spotted and a few small stains, a few marginal tears, occasional light marginal waterstaining, a few leaves lightly browned.) Contemporary sprinkled calf (rebacked, old sides relaid, a little rubbed). Provenance: Dr Louis Planomon, Montpellier (stamp on endpaper).
FIRST EDITION of the most complete materia medica of the time, compiled by the Parisian apothecary and botanist Pomet who gathered his collection of drugs from all parts of the world with which France traded. Caillet 8811: ‘Ouvrage curieux, qui était le guide et le manuel des Herboristes et Apothicaires du XVIIe siecle’; Garrison and Morton 1827.1; Hunt 391; Nissen ZBI 3218.
