Small 4° (208 x 143mm). Large woodcut device on title, another device on verso. (Lacking final ?blank leaf, light spotting or occasional light soiling, last gathering loose.) 19th-century green roan-backed boards (rubbed, rear inner hinges broken). Provenance: inscription on title – bookseller’s label (pastedown) – Honeyman copy, sold at Sotheby’s, 10/11 November 1980, lot 2657.

HIGHLY RARE FIRST EDITION of a philosophical treatise on the nature of the sun, interspersed with cosmological and magical observations. Finley printed in Blado's imitation of the second Arrighi type, it takes the form of a dialogue between Diligence and Idleness, dedicated to Cardinal Guido Ascanio Sforza. Nine edition were published between 1543 and 1550. No sale record for any edition traced since 1980. Fumagalli-Belli, Blado 1206: 'rarissimo'; Honeyman 2657; Houzeau and Lancaster 2501.
