The tooled leather-lined hinged top above four open shelves, each corner flanked by a pair of Corinthian pilasters on a plinth base with inset anti-friction castors, the leather top apparently original, some replacements to the leather book spines

A related design for a bookstand with hinged top is illustrated in Gillows Estimate Sketch Book, 1831, for Ferguson & Co., their London partners, and reproduced in Susan Stuart, Gillows of London and Lancaster 1730 - 1840, Woodbridge, 2008, vol. I, p. 382, pl. 456.
