The bowl is moulded to the exterior with a band of slender lotus petals, emanating from the foot. It is covered in a glaze of soft bluish sea-green tone, pooling in the crevices of the decoration and stopping neatly at the foot.

The Japanese wood box accompanying this tea bowl is inscribed with the signature Seian, which is the studio name of Umegami, Songyu (1881-1945), a renowned Buddhist monk as well as a tea master based in the Honganji Temple in Kyoto.
