A DUAN INKSTONE AND HUANGHUALI BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
Of irregular triangular form, the inkstone is carved with a smooth grinding surface and troughed inkwell surrounded by scrolling clouds. The stone is of dark purplish-brown colour highlighted by a few olive-green ‘eyes’, one of which is carved out as a highlight on the griding surface.

Inkstone: 9 1/4 in. ( 23.5 cm.) long, huanghuali box and cover : 10 1/8 in. ( 25.8 cm.) long; box
