Lot Essay

The Steward triunial has been closely associated with the Lear's and was the main lantern used in their lantern demonstrations on the British canals, overseas and at their museum in Wales. It was used right up until their last show.

The early history of the lantern is unknown although the monogram provides a clue for future research. The quality of the lantern's construction by Steward, one of the best lantern manufacturers, is unsurpassed and the care the lantern has received as a working tool has ensured that it is in excellent order.
