Lot Essay

Duan Ziqing was a Jingxi native and a popular famille rose painter based in Jingdezhen active during the later Republican (1912-1949) period. He is known to paint literati scenes and landscapes. This scene could be inspired by the famous 'Wang Xizhi Watching Geese' scroll by Yuan dynasty painter Qian Xuan who depicted the said Jin dynasty literatus looking for inspiration from the nature.
