Similar trappings can be found on objects in the shapes of various ungulates in bronze, gilt-bronze and cloisonné enamel since the Yuan dynasty. The present incense burner likely lacks an urn on its back. Compare to another sold at Christie's, New York, 17-18 March 2016, lot 1428.
