His sister was the famous aviator Adrienne Bolland, the first woman to have crossed the Andes Mountains by plane in 1921. He started his career as a seaman on the “Pourquoi Pas?” with Jean-Baptiste Charcot in his second expedition in Antarctic (1908-1910). He finished his career in 1946 in China where he was managing the Shanghai Port. During the 23 years he spent in China he became immersed in Chinese life and culture, he spoke perfectly Chinese. He came back to France with art works from China including this beautiful figure of Buddha that his Chinese friends helped him to buy.

Il est représenté assis en vajrasana, ses mains en dhyanamudra. Son visage est serein. Il est vêtu de robes monastiques à la bordure finement incisée de rinceaux de fleurs. Son torse nu est incisé d'une svastika.
